What we know
The second O’Reilly Auto Parts is planned to be constructed in the Live Oak Town Center on the northern end of Main Street where Duke’s Bar was formerly housed.
The new store will be smaller compared to the location on the southern end of Main Street.
A special-use permit is required for the project partly due to the location being in the Entrance Corridor Overlay District, which requires a permit for auto parts sales.
One concern raised by City Council was the safe containment of oil, which customers can bring in for disposal.
Representatives of the business said the oil containment is handled through a contracted organization that specializes in ensuring the environmental safety and prevention of oil leakage.
Council members Sharon Wright and Joe Macaluso mentioned the area on the northern end of main street being dated, and in need of new businesses to help revitalize the area.
During the April 7 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, the permit was amended to only allow delivery to the store between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. each day, with no deliveries on Sunday or Monday.
With approval of a first reading for the SUP, the business inches closer to moving into the Live Oak Town Center.
