The city of Round Rock has several ongoing transportation projects happening throughout the city. Check out some of the latest updates on road construction.
Upcoming projects
Deepwood Drive extension
Project: This project will extend the roadway from RM 620 to Sam Bass Road. The street will be four lanes with a roundabout at the Sam Bass intersection.
Update: The contractor is conducting field investigation and schematic development phase, with a 30% design schematic due this month.
- Timeline: will let in 2027 or 2028, depending on CAMPO funding schedule.
- Cost: $9.6 million for construction
- Funding source: combination of CAMPO and type B sales tax revenue
Eagles Nest extension
Project: The first phase of the extension will construct a four-lane roadway from Cypress Boulevard to Mays Street. The second phase will extend this four-lane road with two bridges over Chandler Creek and I-35. Future phases will extend the street further west to connect with Wyoming Springs Drive.
Update: The first phase of the project is in final environmental documentation and will go to bid for construction in early July. Construction is expected to start this fall.

Roundabout at Sam Bass Road, Hairy Man Road Intersection
Project: A roundabout will be added to the intersection of Sam Bass and Hairy Man Roads to improve traffic flow and safety.

Ongoing projects
South Chisholm Trail Road
Project: The city is reconstructing Chisholm Trail Road from Sam Bass Road to RM 620, with drainage, pedestrian and lighting improvements.
Update: The discovery of utility lines within the project has delayed its completion from this summer 2026 to fall 2026.

Smyers Lane rehabilitation
Project: Rebuild roadway from RM 620 to Wyoming Springs to city standards.
Update: Construction is set to begin this month.

Gattis School Road segment 6
Project: This project will widen the existing four-lane roadway to a six-lane arterial thoroughfare with a raised median between Via Sonoma Trail and Red Bud Lane.
Update: The contractor is navigating the relocation of a water main near the road. Some driveways and culverts are completed.
- Timeline: completion in late 2027
- Cost: $20.4 million

Red Bud Lane North widening
Project: The project includes upgrading an existing two-lane road to a four-lane divided roadway with intersection and pedestrian improvements.
Update: Ongoing weather challenges have had a minor impact on the project’s schedule, but the contractor is working to make up time and completion is still expected on time.
- Timeline: completion scheduled for spring 2027
- Cost: $34.7 million
- Funding sources: developer contributions, Type B sales tax revenue, certificate of obligation bonds
