Contract for new section of Kenney Fort Boulevard extension under consideration in Round Rock

Round Rock officials will consider awarding a $2.37 million contract for the engineering of two new sections of Kenney Fort Boulevard on July 13.

The overview: City Council will vote on the $2.37 million contract for the engineering of Kenney Fort Boulevard segments 5 and 6, that will connect East Old Settlers and University boulevards. If approved, the contract would require engineering firm CP&Y Austin to develop a project schematic; conduct environmental studies; surveying and mapping; and involve the public to create a buildable set of construction plans. Project plans for these segments of Kenney Fort Boulevard show the roadway would be a six-lane divided arterial.

Did you know?: In October, Round Rock awarded a contract for the final piece of Segment 4 that will fully connect the existing pieces of Kenney Fort south of East Old Settlers Boulevard and north of Forest Creek Drive.

Hudder said Kenney Fort is a greenfield project in Round Rock, or one that is constructed on undeveloped land.

“The benefit of that, obviously, is [there will be] new routes that don’t exist today,” said Gary Hudder, Round Rock's transportation department director. “So it helps us distribute traffic throughout the system more functionally.”

Sections 2 and 3, connecting Gattis School Road to SH 45, are also expected to be completed later this year, city staff said.
