Round Rock ISD provides firearm locks to community members through federal grant

Last April, RRISDPD Chief Ryan Urrutia shared a proposal for a grant that would allow the district to purchase 12,000 to 15,000 firearm locks, cable locks and trigger locks to provide to district families to ensure any firearms kept in the household are secure.

In late 2025, the district received the federal grant to fund the purchase and distribution of firearm locks, and launched its firearm safety webpage.

"There are families that do receive firearms handed down from family members or that they come across unknowingly," Urrutia said. "We want them to have some tools to make themselves safe, and most importantly, just keep our entire community safe."
