Texas State Library and Archives Commissions breaks ground on $210M facility in Pflugerville

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission, in partnership with the Texas Facilities Commission, broke ground on a $210 million archival and records storage facility in Pflugerville this week.

Overview

The 242,000-square-foot facility will house the commission’s State and Local Record Management Division, Archives and Information Services Divisions and the Talking Book Program, according to a news release.

The center will replace the existing storage facility on Shoal Creek Boulevard in Austin, and construction is expected to wrap up by the fall of 2027. The project was funded by the 88th Texas Legislature.

In addition to housing agency offices, the center will double the commission’s storage capacity while reserving space for future growth on the new site on Riggins Bend Road in Pflugerville.

“We are thrilled to announce this crucial expansion,” TSLAC Director and Librarian Gloria Meraz said in the release. “The new facility will allow TSLAC to expand our work to ensure the preservation of the state’s rich legacy of historical records, as well as supporting more than 150 state agencies, 10,000 units of local government, researchers, readers with disabilities and Texans in every corner of the state.”
