Round Rock Planning and Development Services shared an annual update on the city’s 2030 comprehensive plan implementation with the City Council during its Nov. 18 meeting, referencing an earlier presentation that stated more than 6,000 units of housing are under development within the city limits.
Department Director Brad Wiseman said the city is on the way to achieving its goal of developing 1,000 housing units within a quarter-mile of Main Street in downtown Round Rock. The presentation shows developments, such as The Depot and 615 Pecan, will help reach this goal.
He also said recent changes to city development regulations are paving the way for some more affordable options, including accessory dwelling units such as guest homes or garage apartments.
“The amendment to the code of ordinances that the council adopted to allow attached accessory dwelling units, including a new definition and requirements for this type of unit—that goes right to affordability and helping folks stay in their homes, and getting folks that maybe wouldn’t be able to get into the community another housing option,” Wiseman said.
