Joe B. Freeman Park and High Country Park could receive new playground equipment in the near future, depending on decisions made by Round Rock City Council on July 27.

Council will vote on two contracts for playground replacements at two city parks, Joe B. Freeman Park and High Country Park, during an upcoming meeting. These replacements are part of the city's 10-year cycle for park equipment, said Rick Atkins, Round Rock's parks and recreation director.
How we got here
City officials regularly evaluate existing park equipment based on its replacement schedule. In addition to being due for replacement based on age, Atkins said the Joe B. Freeman Park playground equipment was damaged in the March 2022 tornado.
One more thing
While the proposed playground replacements do not include plans for complete covering for shade, renderings for the project show attached coverings on play structures to partially shade them.
