Oakmont Drive, N. Mays Street approved for improvements by Round Rock City Council

Two Round Rock roads are slated for improvements after City Council unanimously passed two resolutions Nov. 24.

Director of Transportation Gary Hudder proposed a resolution to widen North Mays Street. Currently, the road expands to four lanes in one area. The passed resolution approves the expansion of the road to four lanes throughout.

The timeline for the North Mays widening will take at least one year to design before a construction date is determined, according to Hudder. At this time Hudder said there will not be a shared cost, and the contract will be with Kasberg and Associates.

The second passed resolution is for roadway and utility improvements along Oakmont Drive. City Council approved the enactment of eminent domain to acquire property to construct the Oakmont Drive extension.

According to the resolution, the project requires the acquisition of a drainage easement on 0.02-acres of land and a temporary workspace easement on a 0.10-acre tract of land. The goal is to construct, widen and maintain the Oakmont Drive extension.

The property is currently owned by WC Round Rock Land Partners LP.

In the short meeting, City Council wrapped up by wishing the city of Round Rock a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

“I’m thankful for the staff and most thankful for our city and our citizens; our citizens are wonderful people,” Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said.
