Richardson’s four neighborhood pools will reopen to residents and their guests July 1.
The decision comes after Gov. Greg Abbott announced last week that pools and water parks can operate at 50% capacity, Deputy City Manager Don Magner told City Council at its June 8 meeting.
Season passes will not be available; instead, residents can purchase day passes, Magner said. Pools will be open for three two-hour swim sessions per day, and swimmers will be required to clear the area during 30-minute cleaning closures. If occupancy allows, swimmers can return for multiple swim sessions each day, Magner said. Poolside furniture will be removed; however, swimmers can bring their own chairs.
Despite the governor's relaxed aquatics regulations, the city is unable to open the Heights Family Aquatic Center. There are not enough lifeguards to staff all four pools and the center, Magner said.
