Twenty-two arts organizations in Richardson are set to receive funding after City Council unanimously approved $375,000 in arts grants on Sept. 28.
The grants will be distributed to Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Theatre Centre, and several other music, theater and performing arts organizations.
The overview
Richardson awards arts grants annually from city’s hotel occupancy tax fund, said Assistant City Manager Michaela Dollar.
Dollar said the city received 26 applications for a total of $555,794 requested funds. The city’s budget for fiscal year 2026-27 set aside $375,000 for the grant program.
The Richardson Cultural Arts Commission, a group of seven volunteers, considered, interviewed and selected the grant recipients.
A closer look
“The evaluation criteria that the commission focuses on is the organization’s focus on Richardson and serving the Richardson residents,” Dollar said.
Additional criteria included the organization’s impact on the community, the financial health of the organization, the quality of the application and alignment with the city’s Arts and Culture Master Plan.
Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Theatre Centre, Chamber Music International and Repertory Company Theatre received the largest grants from the city.
What’s next
Following council’s unanimous approval, Dollar said the grants would be disbursed at the city’s October cultural arts workshop.
