Texas Supreme Court strikes down extended Dallas County voting hours, early results delayed

According to the Texas Supreme Court order, votes cast by voters who were not in line to vote at 7 p.m. “should be separated.”

A Dallas County Elections Department official confirmed that voters who got in line after 7 p.m. were given a provisional ballot, which are used when there are questions about a voter’s eligibility.

In a news release following the initial injunction, Dallas County’s Democratic Party cited “documented voting access issues and administrative hurdles” due to a switch from precinct-based voting from countywide voting—which the county has used in previous elections and allowed voters to vote at any vote center in the county.
