The University of Texas at Dallas is set to increase its role in training the semiconductor industry’s workforce.
The University was selected to “ lead key initiatives within the new National Network for Microelectronics Education,” according to a UT Dallas news release.

As part of a national effort to boost semiconductor UT Dallas will expand its existing North Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium, a program that partners with the local community colleges in order to train technicians.
The consortium currently includes Collin College, Dallas College, Grayson College, Tarrant County College and Murray State College, according to the release.
“As semiconductor manufacturers are making significant investments in North Texas, we have been working with industry leaders to ensure that universities and community colleges provide students with the skills that employers need,” Ted Moise, Director of UT Dallas’ North Texas Semiconductor Institute (NTxSI), said in the release. “We will expand this work as part of the new regional initiative..”
The background
NTxSI was established in 2023 and has awarded more than 300 certifications in that time.
“Our outreach has increased dramatically the number of students pursuing this training in community colleges,” Moise said. “Students are getting jobs and multiple job offers in some cases.”
