Richardson ISD accepts board president's resignation, will decide on vacancy at next meeting

The Richardson ISD board of trustees voted unanimously Oct. 4 to accept the resignation of former President Karen Clardy.

Vice President Regina Harris, who oversaw the meeting as the board's presiding officer, said trustees will consider at their next meeting whether to make an appointment to fill the vacancy created by Clardy's resignation, which was effective Sept. 24. Harris said the board will also considering reorganizing trustees' roles at that time.

"The RISD board of trustees and [Superintendent Jeannie] Stone will continue to make academic achievement for all students our No. 1 priority on this board," Harris said at the beginning of the meeting. "We will continue to make decisions based on what is best for our students, our staff and our community. We will model the decorum that we expect from our students each and every day as they walk our halls, as they're in our classrooms, [and] as they're in our schools."

The board's next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Clardy gave no reason for her resignation in the letter she sent to the other trustees and Stone on Sept. 24. She had held the board’s District 5 seat since 2017.

The District 5 seat is scheduled to be up for election in May 2022.

"We want to express our gratitude to Karen for everything she's done," Stone said during the meeting. "I'm hopeful that at some time in the future, we will be able to celebrate, appropriately, her time and her tenure as a trustee in Richardson ISD."
