Richardson resumes normal trash and recycling services

The city announced today it will return to normally scheduled trash and recycling pickup on April 27.

Staff decided to switch to once-a-week trash collection and stopped all recycling pickup April 9 due to staffing shortages caused by an employee contracting COVID-19, Deputy City Manager Don Magner said.

At the height of the shortage, the city was down to 10 trash collection employees but has seen about 80% of workers return, Magner said.

Now that staff has safely returned to work, twice-a-week trash pickup and recycling service can resume, he said.

“Knowing that they were well and that they were capable of doing the job, we believed we could return to a staffing level that was sufficient to be able to provide the full scope of services again,” Magner said.

Temporary recycling drop-off locations in the city will no longer be in service as of Monday, April 27.
