Texas House lawmakers OK bills that would require judges to deny bail for certain felonies

Proposals that would require judges to deny bail in certain cases; expand a list of offenses for which defendants could not be released on low-cost bonds; and prohibit local governments from using public money to cover bail costs received bipartisan support. A measure that would require judges to deny bail for undocumented immigrants charged with certain felonies will need an additional vote to pass the House.
