First Street will close between Main Street and Church Street starting July 20, according to a town of Prosper news release.
The route will be completely closed to through traffic to allow for the installation of underground utilities, according to the project website.
Crews are expected to finish this portion of the project and reopen the road by July 27, per the release.
A closer look
The work is part of a larger initiative to widen First Street.
Construction to widen First Street from Stuber Elementary School to Dallas Parkway wrapped up in December 2025, and construction from Dallas Parkway to Coleman Street began in May.
Work on the segment from Dallas Parkway to Coleman Street is expected to be complete in fall 2027, per the project website.
Widening of the first segment cost $29.3 million, and work on the current segment has a budget of $27.3 million for a total cost of $56.6 million, according to the town’s construction dashboard.
Looking ahead
Another section of First Street from Coleman Street to Craig Road is set to be widened to three lanes, per the dashboard.
The $13 million project is in the design phase, and construction is slated to begin in late 2028 or early 2029 and wrap up in summer 2030, according to the project website.
