Prosper residents will see more roadwork on First Street as the next phase of construction begins this spring.

At its Feb. 10 meeting, Prosper Town Council approved three items tied to the project to widen First Street from the Dallas North Tollway to Coleman Street. The work will expand the existing two-lane road into a four-lane divided arterial and include drainage and water line improvements.
Prosper Senior Engineer Lindy Higginbotham said construction on the $27.79 million project is scheduled to begin in April and projected to wrap up in November 2027.
The start date was previously delayed due to reduced December council meetings and franchise relocation and easement acquisition issues, according to the town’s capital improvement program website.
What happened
Prosper Town Council approved a $21.29 million construction agreement with Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating Inc. for the project, along with a separate $408,815 contract for materials testing.
Council members also approved a $1.62 million agreement with the BNSF Railway Company for improvements to the existing railway signals and at-grade crossing on the roadway.
BNSF Railway will carry out the improvements, but the town will pay for the required labor and materials, according to town documents.

Construction on First Street from Stuber Elementary to Dallas Parkway wrapped up recently, according to town officials.
The $30.39 million project began in spring 2023 and wrapped up in December.
