City officials are preparing to open Celina’s Downtown Center early next year.
The $59 million Downtown Center will house the city services currently located in City Hall on Ohio Drive, including administrative offices and the Celina Public Library, according to previous reporting.
The center will include a 26,209-square-foot library that spans multiple floors, as well as a rooftop community space and an adjacent four-story parking garage, according to the project website.
Officials expect the Downtown Center to open in February 2027, City Manager Robert Ranc said.
The update
Construction on the first phase of the project, which focused on the center’s parking garage, wrapped up in December.
The 25,202-square-foot garage cost $19.3 million and includes almost 400 free parking spaces.
Structural concrete work on the Downtown Center is complete, and crews are moving onto exterior framing, stair installation and utility tie-ins, according to the city’s social media.
Celina City Council also approved a $1.7 million contract to furnish the center at a May 12 meeting, including:
- Library
- Offices
- Public meeting areas
- Reception areas
- Conference rooms
- Employee break room
Looking ahead
The Downtown Center is part of city officials’ long-term vision for downtown.
Once city services have been moved to the Downtown Center, the current City Hall on Ohio Drive is set to be taken down as part of a project to expand the downtown square, Assistant City Manager Kimberly Brawner said at a June 9 meeting.
While the Celina Public Library will be permanently housed in the Downtown Center, officials eventually plan to build a new City Hall on Beech Street, she said.
Plans for the new City Hall will move forward as the city’s administrative offices expand to serve Celina’s growing population, which city officials estimate is at least 10 years away.
