Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Texas House of Representatives District 66

Why are you running for office?

I love Texas. I built my career and my life in Collin County, and I've watched it grow into something special. I'm running again because it's a wonder opportunity to ensure the next family that moves here finds the same opportunity I did.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district?

Rio Mambo closes in Colleyville<br><br>Rio Mambo Tex Mex y Mas in Colleyville has closed its doors, according to a lockout notice on the door.<br><br>The restaurant, which opened in Colleyville in 2005, served fajitas, enchiladas, chalupas, guacamole and more, per its website. <br><br>Brent Johnson with FIFTYONE Fifty Properties, the restaurant’s landlord, said Rio Mambo was initially locked out Aug. 27, but through negotiations, the restaurant reopened last weekend. However, because of financial struggles with California-based Xperience Restaurant Group, who acquired the restaurant in 2023, Rio Mambo was locked out again Aug. 31, Johnson said.<br><br>Along with the Colleyville restaurant, the chain’s other locations in Burleson, Weatherford and Fort Worth have also closed. <br>Closed Aug. 31<br>5150 SH 121, Colleyville<br>https://riomambo.com <br><br>Our fast-growing district brings real opportunity alongside real challenges. Constituents consistently raise concerns about rising property taxes, and growth demands infrastructure that keeps pace—roads, water and power. Education remains a top priority, and I will continue working to ensure Texas fully and sufficiently funds our schools.

How do you plan to address these issues?

Cap spending, requires two-thirds local votes to raise taxes and deliver real property tax relief. Keep infrastructure strong by funding roads, water systems and a reliable electric grid. Invest over $100 billion in education, with billions more directed toward raising teacher pay statewide.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

I'll keep fighting for real property tax relief, I'll ensure the Texas economy and jobs continue to grow, I'll continue to lead the fight to protect children from predators and I'll fight government corruption at all levels.

Why are you running for office?

For too long, our district has lacked a representative who truly listens and acts for our families and future. As a proud Texan and first-generation immigrant, Sandeep is committed to expanding opportunity, strengthening our community and ensuring every family—regardless of background—has a fair chance to thrive.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district?

Our biggest challenges include ensuring access to quality public education, affordable health care and reproductive freedom, while finding ways to lower property taxes. Simultaneously, we must invest in the schools, infrastructure and services that keep our communities strong and ensure families have the support they need to thrive.

How do you plan to address these issues?

Sandeep is focused on listening to residents, bringing people together, and delivering results—not partisan politics. He believes local government works best when it is transparent, accountable, and focused on the everyday concerns of working families.
