The city of Celina got 578 acres bigger in August.
Celina City Council approved voluntary land annexations for three projects totaling 578 acres at an Aug. 11 meeting, including:
- 10 acres for Celina ISD Elementary School No. 8
- 40 acres for a residential development
- 528 acres for a mixed-use development
The details
Council can incorporate land outside its city limits, known as its extraterritorial jurisdiction, through a process called voluntary annexation. In exchange, land that is voluntarily annexed receives access to city services like water, wastewater and emergency services.
CISD’s eighth elementary school, Janet H. Calvert Elementary School, will be located on a 10-acre site southeast of Coit Road and CR 101, according to city documents.
Construction is already underway on roads and infrastructure for the site, according to previous reporting.
What else?
Council also approved annexations for two future development projects.
The first project, Mesa Verde, is a proposed residential development with detached single-family lots and 10 acres of open space on a 40-acre property southeast of Celina Parkway and CR 59, according to city documents. Council members already approved a development agreement for the property in May 2025.
The second project, called Robinson, is a planned development with mixed-use, single-family and commercial components on 528 acres, according to city documents.
Robinson’s annexation was also outlined in a previously approved development agreement from 2021, per city documents.
Neither developer has immediate plans to develop the annexed property, town staff said.
