Plano Parks and Recreation to host hiring events for summer positions

Plano Parks and Recreation will host two hiring events this year at Carpenter Park Recreation Center for part-time and seasonal positions.

The first hiring event takes place on Jan. 7 from 9 a.m.-noon and the second event is planned for March 4 at the same location and time, according to a news release from the city. The events are meant "to get ahead of summer seasonal hiring,” Plano Community Outreach Specialist Kelley Crimmins said in an email.

The city held a similar event last year in March that saw a sizable turnout, but all positions were not filled, forcing the city to limit its available pool hours, Crimmins said.

“This year we face those same challenges,” Crimmins said. “But we hope with these two hiring events, as well as increased outreach and awareness, we will find the candidates we’re looking for in time to fill these oh-so-important positions and get them trained and certified in time for the summer season.”

Open positions include lifeguards, swim instructors, day camp counselors, gymnastics coaches, concession attendants and more. No experience is required and Plano Parks and Recreation provides all training and certifications for free.

Individuals 14 and older are encouraged to apply for an opportunity to interview with a team member and a chance of being hired on the spot. Those applying for aquatic positions should bring a swimsuit as swim tests will be conducted on-site, according to the release.
