Pflugerville awarded $750K for major water infrastructure improvements

The city of Pflugerville has been awarded $750,000 in federal Community Project Funding to support construction of new water infrastructure needed to accommodate continued growth along the SH 45 corridor.

The funding, announced Feb. 6 during a press conference with Mayor Doug Weiss and U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, will help pay for the design and construction of a 5 million-gallons-per-day pump station and a 1.25 million-gallon ground storage.

The tank will be near the intersection of SH 130 and SH 45, and will serve Pflugerville’s 960-foot pressure zone and expand pumping capacity for existing and future development.

Officials said the project is necessary to fully support higher-density development enabled by recent corridor amendments.

“This investment ensures that infrastructure keeps pace with growth and that our community continues to receive safe, reliable service,” Weiss said.

The funding was included in a federal appropriations package for fiscal year 2025-26 that was signed into law Jan. 23.

The project joins a list of ongoing water infrastructure improvements in Pflugerville.

Most recently the Pflugerville City Council unanimously approved over $80 million in certificates of obligation bonds for major water infrastructure projects.

• Secondary Colorado River Raw Water Line: A $52.93 million bond will fund a 15-mile pipeline, pump station expansion and water treatment plant upgrades.
• Water Treatment Plant Expansion: A $27.18 million bond will cover mechanical, electrical, and control system upgrades for the final phase of the plant expansion.
