In anticipation of opening the district's second comprehensive high school next year, Hutto ISD administrators are planning where boundaries for the schools might fall.

The district's initial plan for splitting its high school attendance zone includes a boundary along Hwy. 79, according to a Sept. 10 presentation from Assistant Superintendent of Operations Dustin Barton.
Students north of the road would attend Creekside High School, and students south of it would attend Hutto High School.
The details
Not all students would be required to switch schools next fall, Barton said. The district is considering allowing current eleventh-grade students to remain at HHS for their final year.
Students in varsity sports would also remain at HHS, as CHS will not be postseason-eligible in its first year. Similarly, students participating in career and technical education or fine arts programs not offered at CHS would be allowed to remain.
Barton said students remaining at HHS for programmatic reasons would continue to receive transportation services. However, students remaining purely by choice might not, he said.
"We still have 800 students—800 seniors that we have to provide transportation for to high school that live north of 79," Barton said. "So, [the district is] going to be creating [bus] routes for all of those students."
What's next?
The school district will continue gathering input on the plan through September, with a final recommendation coming to the board in October, he said.
