3.27 acres in Hutto rezoned to allow for construction of apartments

Hutto City Council voted to rezone a 3.27-acre tract of land near CR 137 and FM 1660 for multifamily use.

Officials approved the rezoning during a Sept. 16 meeting.

The rezoned land is one section of a larger 21.29-acre tract and was originally zoned for general commercial use, but the landowner deemed it unfit for commercial use after learning it would not be accessible via FM 1660.

JMZ Land Co. proposed building approximately nine three-story apartment buildings on the newly rezoned land. Combined with proposed apartments in the adjacent site to the west, the new apartments would constitute 267 units.

"Based on the location of the lot as well as the lack of access, it makes much more sense for this lot to also be multifamily and provide additional, much-needed residential units for the city of Hutto," Olsson Project Manager Matthew Loos said in a letter to council.
