Two candidates are vying for Position 5 of the Friendswood City Council in the upcoming May 6 election: business owner Adam Hill and retired executive Joe Matranga. Incumbent John Scott is not running for re-election.

Why are you running for Friendswood City Council?
I have the time, knowledge, and vision for our hometown. I have a unique position of having worked for the citizens/business owners in all parts of the city. I have had the pleasure to have hundreds of families trust me to build their homes and offices. I have seen families grow up here and see the true spirit continue to grow. I want to continue that work from the dais and continue to make a difference for the families of Friendswood.
If elected, what would be your top priority?
As a council member, I am committed to safeguarding the safety of our citizens and enhancing fiscal responsibility. Additionally, I will steadfastly support schools throughout our city to ensure they have all that is necessary for success. Collaborating with local drainage districts and county partners will remain a top priority to create beneficial resolutions while achieving desired outcomes.
What are some of the important issues facing Friendswood residents?
As a husband, father, son, business owner, and lifelong ties to this community, I understand the priority of all residents. We must proactively consider our growth rate, tax rates, and general needs while being prepared for whatever nature has in stone. Only by taking on the challenges before for us can we guarantee future welfare here in Friendswood. We must continue diligent work to reduce flooding Friendswood.
Why are you running for Friendswood City Council?
I love this city and want to continue giving back to help us continue to thrive! I have the skills, dedication and experience needed to help Friendswood tackle the challenges ahead. I am a proven leader with experience managing large operations and budgets and already have a record of lowering taxes within West Ranch. I have a deep desire to continue serving our city and will work to do what’s best for all of Friendswood.
If elected, what would be your top priority?
As a longtime resident in Friendswood, my priorities are safety, thoughtful spending, drainage improvements and maintaining excellence in our schools. We must preserve the exceptional levels of safety and services our citizens expect while staying focused on our spending. Manage our growth in a balanced and responsible way without ever losing sight of our sense of community and small-town feel that is at the heart of Friendswood, making it a special place to live.
What are some of the important issues facing Friendswood residents?
Friendswood has been recognized as one of the “Safest Cities in America.” Maintaining that level of safety is paramount in the work we do in our community. Ensuring our residents have access to quality education is always a priority. We must be excellent stewards of our tax dollars to provide the proper balance of desired services to costs. Continuing to address flooding remains critical because of its impact on our safety, education, and taxes.
