Alvin Community College receives nearly $500K in grants

Alvin Community College officials said the school has enhanced various programs with the help of a pair of grants totaling $500,000, according to multiple news releases from the college.

One such grant, totaling $350,000, comes from the Texas Workforce Commission, or TWC, which was awarded to ACC on June 11, according to a June 26 news release from the college.

The grant will fund the purchase and installation of a Pignat OTP-DC Distillation Unit, which is used to help students in programs such as engineering, chemistry and environmental science gain hands-on experience with separation processes, the news release notes.

The grant awarded to ACC was one of 60 issued by the TWC in December, which totaled $15 million, according to the news release.

ACC’s board of regents approved a $150,000 grant for the nursing program, which was received from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board during the regents’ meeting on June 26, according to a June 30 news release from the college.

The funding will be used to purchase equipment and supplies, including laptops for students in the nursing program, the news release notes.
