Here are some news items and events to know this week in and around Northwest Austin.

1. Uber, Lyft set for a comeback 

Officials with Uber and Lyft say both companies will return to Austin once Texas' new ride-hailing legislation, House Bill 100, is signed into law. The companies left Austin last May after voters defeated a ballot proposition that would have eased requirements for drivers to complete fingerprint-based background checks. Austin Mayor Steve Adler said in a statement that he was disappointed state lawmakers chose to undo the will of voters.

2. Flannigan on "Real Talk"

Austin City Council Member Jimmy Flannigan, who represents District 6 in Northwest Austin, will be a guest Wednesday on an edition of the "Real Talk" event series. The two-hour event will include an interview with Flannigan conducted by Audrey McGlinchy of KUT-FM and an audience Q&A session. The event is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. at Concordia University Texas Incubator for Innovation & Impact, 11400 Concordia University Drive, Austin.

3. Capital Metro tries out ride-hailing

Capital Metro will test a new ride-hailing service called Pickup in Austin’s Mueller and Windsor Park neighborhoods starting June 6. The free, on-demand service will operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m-6 p.m. The pilot program will last six to 12 months. Read more here.

4. Round Rock ISD will assess bond failure

Round Rock ISD officials will host workshops and seek public input as the district moves forward after the May 6 failure of its $572.09 million bond election. All three propositions in RRISD’s bond election package failed during the election, which proposed funding for a number of projects, including a new $150 million high school.

5. New openings in Domain Northside

North Austin's Domain Northside shopping district adds 11 new retail stores this month, including b8ta, a technology store that opened Saturday. Read more here.
