GENaustin is scheduled to host its "Sweet Success: Minding Their Own Business" event April 12 for girls ranging in age from 11–18 to teach them about financial literacy.
The second annual workshop takes place at 10 a.m. at Ballet Austin's Community Room, 501 W. Third St., and is open to all girls in the Austin metropolitan area. The event includes an expert panel of women business leaders who will discuss their personal entrepreneurship experiences in Austin. The panel includes Carey Kepler, co-founder of CrossFit Austin, Teresa Granillo, executive director of Con Mi Madre, and Maria Orozova, president and creative director of The MOD Studio marketing firm. Participants may be dropped off at 9:30 a.m.
Joy Beth Myers, GENaustin workshop program manager, said financial literacy emphasizes how best to be successful in business through smart money-making decisions and financial management.
"One thing I think is so important is for girls in our community to hear from these really successful female entrepreneurs ... and help them apply [advice] to their own lives," Myers said.
