Maureen McCoy, the executive director of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, plans to retire from her position, effective Feb. 11.
McCoy has been with CAMPO, which coordinates regional transportation planning for Central Texas, for 13 years. Previously she worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in several positions, including in the public transportation and federal legislation divisions. She started her transportation career working for the city of San Angelo.
She said she does not have any plans yet after her retirement but will take the next couple of months considering her next steps. McCoy also has a daughter who is a junior in high school and is looking at colleges.
"It's time somebody else had the fun," she said. " That's what the glory is about retiring: You never know where the road takes you."
