The city of New Braunfels is in the early stages of a public transit study to determine transportation and mobility needs for New Braunfels and the surrounding community. According to a city news release, the study will help develop a fixed-route public transit service similar to VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio. The study is sponsored by the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. The study will also analyze existing city services and chart demographic and travel patterns to determine what needs have not been met for area residents. The city is asking area residents to contribute to the study by attending one-of-three public outreach meetings or by taking an online survey. The online surveys are seeking input from transit riders, tourism-related businesses, non-tourism related businesses, human services organizations and the general public. Surveys must be completed by Nov. 18. The first public outreach meeting will be this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the New Braunfels Farmers Market, 186 S. Castell Ave, New Braunfels. The second public outreach meeting will be held at the Freiheit Farmers Market, 2032 Central Plaza, New Braunfels, Oct. 30 from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. The final public outreach meeting is scheduled for Nov. 7 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Westside Community Center, 2932 S. I-35, New Braunfels. For complete information on the city of New Braunfels public transit study go to www.nbtransit.org.
