The Texas Department of Transportation is holding a ribbon-cutting for RM 2244, better known in the Westlake and West Austin area as Bee Caves Road, which will celebrate the completion of the project to widen that road.
The project widened Bee Caves Road from Red Bud Trail to Walsh Tarlton Lane and included the construction of a center turn lane as well as shoulders and pedestrian accommodations to enhance safety and mobility for area travelers, according to press release from TxDOT.
The project began in November 2016 and concluded in November 2019, according to the release. The ribbon-cutting will be held at Independent Bank at 101 Westlake Drive, Austin.
Construction was originally slated to begin in mid-2016, but due to private utility relocations, crews did not begin work on the roadway until late 2016, TxDOT Public Information Officer Bradley Wheelis said in December. The project cost about $29 million to complete.
