The Texas Department of Transportation and contractor Lone Star Siteworks are about to begin work on the RM 967 and Main Street improvement project in downtown Buda. Traffic control signs and barricades will appear Oct. 25, the city announced in a news release, and construction will begin next week. The project, which has been in the planning stages for years, will widen the roadway and provide dedicated turn lanes along with broader sidewalks, signage and pavement striping for better pedestrian safety. Existing diagonal parking will remain, according to the city, but traffic signal poles will be relocated. Buda is receiving over $1.38 million from TxDOT via the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and will contribute $346,000 in matching funds from the 2014 voter-approved bond. Work is expected to finish in the spring. Updates will be available on the city of Buda website.
