A demolition permit was sold this week to allow a restoration and renovation of 1059 Kirby Drive to move forward. The River Oaks mansion was given a historical designation by the city of Houston in 2009. Built in 1928 as a speculative house for the new neighborhood, it was designed by architect Charles Oliver, who went on to design 75 homes in River Oaks, according to city of Houston documents. Owners included mortgage firm owner T.J. Bettes and Roy Hofheinz, the longtime Houston politico who served as mayor, county judge and state representative. Custom home builder Al Ross Luxury Homes is overseeing the restoration effort. Use the interactive map to view additional demolition permit details.
