Sugar Land residents who live near Seventh Street will see road work continue Aug. 10-11, according to a press release from the city. The four-phase project began in May and will aim to reduce roadway ponding during medium to extreme rain events, improve storm sewer capacity and fix mobility issues due to impassable roads and excessive drainage times. Work on the first two phases was authorized in anticipation of the upcoming start of the school year, and Sugar Land Middle School is affected. As the Fort Bend ISD school year begins Aug. 14, city officials said traffic can be expected on West Hillary Circle and Rolling Mills Drive during school drop-off and pickup times. In addition, due to construction in the park, children walking to school from the neighborhood north of Ditch A-22 will have to take a detour around the football field north of the school. Communication from Keith Fickel, the principal of Sugar Land Middle School, was sent to parents to provide directions for car riders, walkers, bicycle riders and bus riders, including a map of the detour areas. Residents are asked to be mindful of work crews, expect traffic delays and when possible avoid the area to prevent traffic congestion.
