For Megan Warne, the restaurant industry never seemed like something she wanted to be a part of. But when she moved to New Braunfels from Dallas six years ago, she began working at Mozie’s and fell in love.
“It’s fast-paced, and there’s a new challenge every day,” Warne said.
Now the general manager at Mozie’s, Warne still enjoys coming to work in a town that reminds her “of the towns you see in movies,” she said.
Warne’s newest love, Mozie’s opened in 2009 at the corner of Gruene and Hunter roads.
In the 1970s, it was a saddle and tack shop.
Now, it is a thriving restaurant with a “shotgun bar” sporting a narrow, rectangular shape and a casual rustic atmosphere.
Just steps away from Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, Mozie’s has become a popular hangout spot for concertgoers.
Inside the narrow space, Warne said, you can at times find musicians in the restaurant enjoying food and libations with their fans.
Warne loves how close-knit her employees are and said customers will often see her and the other managers serving food and busing tables.
“I like to think on my feet, so I like being out on the floor with everyone,” she said.
The bar at Mozie’s serves premium well liquor and recently started offering draft beer as well as bottled beer.
When it comes to the food, some customer favorites include the Char-King, an 8-ounce charbroiled cheeseburger that is “flame-kissed” to perfection; fish tacos topped with coleslaw, avocado and roasted salsa–Warne’s favorite; skinny garlic fries; and an array of sandwiches, including The Ruben and the Panko Sandwich.
There are many other choices on the menu as well, including a new six-layer strawberry cake for dessert and a variety of cocktails.
Patrons can pull up a seat at the bar or grab a table for the evening and enjoy one of the many choices on the Mozie’s menu.
