During Lakeway's June 17 City Council meeting, representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation updated officials on the latest information regarding the RM 620 expansion projected to begin construction in late 2022.
The project is so far funded for construction from its southern tip at the thoroughfare's intersection with Hwy. 71 up to Oak Grove Blvd. The full project extends about another 7 miles up to Hudson Bend Road.
TxDOT representatives told council so far the department has been meeting with Lakeway and Bee Cave officials to better understand local needs and priorities, determining right of way needs throughout the corridor, analyzing how to match existing cross streets to the new iteration of RM 620 and holding ongoing meetings with property owners affected by the project.
As part of the update, TxDOT representatives encouraged all area residents to attend a June 26 open house from 5-7 p.m. centered on the expansion, so far estimated to cost more than $100 million, at Bee Cave City Hall in the Hill Country Galleria.
Most recently, TxDOT held a similar open house Oct. 10 at the Lakeway Activity Center. Following the June 26 open house, TxDOT is planning a public hearing for a date to be determined in late 2020, presenting environmental findings in the spring of 2020 and commencing construction in late 2022.
