Kurt Proba has been in the hospitality business since he was 17 years old, working at his father’s restaurants in every position possible. His goal?
“I wanted to learn the in and outs of the business and have an understanding all about restaurants,” Proba said. “I got hooked.”
Twenty-three years later in 2011, he partnered with his father to open Bogie’s Pub & Grill in Missouri City and then opened a location in Pearland a few years later.
The pub specializes in bar food but also custom Tex-Mex creations, such as tacos and chimichangas, as well as daily specials and off-the-menu items, Proba said. There are also a menu for children and lighter options, such as salads and wraps.
Proba reinvented the menu in May to add additional types of burgers and more family-friendly options as well as some desserts.
The restaurant does not allow patrons under 21 years old after 9 p.m., but from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Proba said he wants to create an atmosphere where families can have a fun experience while also eating freshly made food.
“The majority of the food is made from scratch,” he said. “That is what I like to eat, so I want the same for my customers that come into Bogie’s.”
Wings and burgers are popular at Bogie’s, as well as its assortment of cocktails, beer and wine, Proba said.
He said customers who like burgers with a kick should choose the Texan Burger, which features angus beef topped with grilled fresh jalapeno, pepper jack cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole and shredded lettuce.
Proba’s personal favorite is the wings, which he eats with the traditional buffalo hot sauce.
“They are big, jumbo, juicy wings,” he said.
The pub features happy hour every day until 7 p.m., boasting an assortment of margarita options as well as entertainment options, such as karaoke, sporting events on a big screen and live bands.
“We want provide a place for adults to get away, and so we are like ‘Cheers’ in that way,” Proba said. “When you come in, you see nice, friendly people.”
