The Fort Bend County Road and Bridge Department has already started debris pick-up in some areas affected by last week’s severe weather, according to a Facebook post from the Office of Emergency Management May 16.

Another debris sweep will begin Monday. Here are some things to keep in mind if you have debris that needs to be picked up next week:

1.) Debris should be placed at the curb—not on the sidewalk or anywhere closer to the home—without blocking the roadway or any storm drains.

2.) There are six debris categories for pick-up services:

• Vegetative debris: leaves, logs, plants and tree branches


• Construction and demolition debris: building materials, carpet, drywall, furniture, lumber, mattresses, plumbing materials


• Appliances: air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters


• Electronics: computers, radios, stereos, televisions, other corded devices


• Household hazardous waste: cleaning supplies, batteries, lawn chemicals, oils, oil-based paints and stains, and pesticides

3) No normal household trash will be picked up during disaster debris sweeps. Regular garbage will be picked up according to the normal trash removal schedule.

4) If debris has not been picked up by the end of next week, contact the Road and Bridge Department at 281-342-4513.

5) Residents who live in the cities of Richmond, Rosenberg or Sugar Land should contact their city about storm-related debris pick-up.
