Students from International School of Texas, a nonprofit, independent private school located off RM 620 and Hudson Bend Road in Austin, have recently returned from a cultural immersion trip to Tanzania, Africa.
“This year our international trip focused on service learning through conservation,” Head of School Tim Reilly said in a release. “These trips focus on three lenses of the IB (International Baccalaureate) which are global citizenship, taking action, and developing a love for life-long learning.”
Highlights of the trip included volunteering with the Jane Goodall Institute on a reforestation project, student exchange day at International School Moshi, a conservation safari in the Serengeti, snorkeling in the Indian Ocean and other cultural experiences, such as spending the day in the village of Njoro cooking, singing and participating in traditional dances with local residents.
