Motorists should expect lane closures and delays Sunday morning, both in an around the Vintage Park area, as the Vintage Park Half Marathon takes over several major corridors April 14. The USA Track & Field-sanctioned event will feature a half-marathon, half-marathon relay, 5K and Kids 1K races and is part of the Bayou City's Half Marathon Series. The course will begin at Vintage Park, where runners will take Louetta Road east to Champion Forest Drive, Champion Forest Drive south to Cypresswood Drive, Cypresswood Drive west to Cutten Road, and Cutten Road north to Vintage Preserve Parkway, where they will end back at Vintage Park. According to a statement from the Bayou City Half Marathon Series, the traffic control plan will not include any full road closures, allowing both runners and motorists to use the roads included in the course. Runners will use the curb lane of the road, while motorist will have the median lane. The statement also said in addition to ample signage, police officers and course flaggers will also be onsite directing traffic. "Though we will have traffic control plans in place, cars should expect delays due to heavy runner traffic beginning at 6:45 a.m. and ending around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday morning," a spokesperson with the Bayou City Half Marathon Series said in an email. "The heaviest areas will be Vintage Preserve Parkway between Vintage Park Boulevard and Louetta [Road], as well as Chasewood Park Drive between [Hwy.] 249 and Louetta [Road]." Motorists should expect delays on Louetta Road, Cypresswood Drive and Champion Forest Drive during the Vintage Park Half Marathon on April 14.[/caption] While parking opens at 5 a.m., the races are expected to run from about 7-11 a.m. The Elite Half Marathon will begin at 7:04 a.m., followed by the Main Half Marathon at 7:05 a.m., the 5K at 7:25 a.m. and the Kids 1K at 8:50 a.m. The 5K is expected to wrap up by 8:30 a.m., followed by the Kids 1K at 9:45 a.m. and the half-marathon at around 10 a.m. The finish lane and race site will close at 11 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate east-west corridors, such as Spring Cypress Road and FM 1960, and alternate north-south corridors, such as Hwy. 249 and Stuebner Airline Road, to avoid delays.
