A resolution to oppose the Texas Central high-speed rail line was passed unanimously by Montgomery County Commissioners Court on March 19.

"This request was brought to my office by [state Rep.] Steve Toth, [R-The Woodlands]," Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack said. "We passed this resolution in some fashion twice before."

"We all know how we feel about the high-speed rail," Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said.

Following the meeting, Texas Central released a statement via email about the benefits the high-speed rail could bring to Montgomery County.

“The train is expected to pump more than $36 billion directly into the state economy over the next 25 years, including paying more than $2.5 billion in taxes to counties, cities, schools, hospital districts and other taxing entities along the route," according to the statement. "It also will create 10,000 direct jobs during each year of construction and 1,500 permanent jobs when operational. The project will not take federal or state grants to build or operate the project.”
