Over the next decade, Conroe ISD is expected to add more than 13,500 students to its enrollment, according to a recent demographics study conducted by Population and Survey Analysts. PASA is a research organization that assists Texas school districts in long-range planning by projecting future student enrollment based on a variety of factors including housing and economic trends. Deputy Superintendent Chris Hines presented an overview of the study during the CISD board of trustees meeting on Dec. 18. The study compared the demographics of CISD’s population to that of the Houston metro area, broke down growth annually until 2028 and examined which high schools should expect increasing student populations and which should anticipate decreases. By 2028, CISD is expected to reach an enrollment of 76,560 students. At the start of the 2018-19 school year, CISD had enrollment of 63,014 students—a change of 13,546 students. “That’s one of the themes [in this study]—students are coming,” Hines said. “We’re going to continue to grow—it’s not stopping yet.” According to the study, while Conroe High School is expected to add more than 2,500 students over the next 10 years, The Woodlands High School is expected to lose more than 700 students.
