During November, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office participated in No-Shave November for the first time on behalf of the nonprofit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The no-shave movement raises awareness for blood cancer through participants donating $50 each instead of spending the money on barber shops and grooming throughout the month. LLS's mission is to research cures for blood cancers and improve quality of life for patients and their families, providing resources, information and support.
More than 240 deputies and employees participated in the voluntary event, raising $13,500 for the nonprofit. Beginning Dec. 1 grooming standards returned to the original policy.
Sheriff Rand Henderson presented a check to the LLS on Dec. 4 on behalf of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
“It was an honor to partner with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the fight against cancer," Rand said in a press release. "Their work in cancer research and the responsible use of funds is one of the reasons why we chose to partner with them.”
