Oak Ridge North’s newest City Council member, Dawn Candy, was officially sworn in to Place 4 on Nov. 8.
“I really enjoy working with the city,” Candy said. “So, when I was approached about being on the council, I thought it would be something I would be very interested in.”
Candy is the owner of I Promote You, a local strategic marketing company founded in 2008. She is on the board of the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations, the Montgomery County Association of Business Women and Family Promise. Candy is also the 2018 WISE Conference Coordinator. She has been volunteering at the cafe in The Ark Church in Conroe for over 10 years.
“I have a great rapport with all of the individuals on the council,” Candy said. “I’m excited to be a part of it and look forward to learning from them and getting more involved in the city.”
Candy and her husband, Randy Lovelace, bought a home in Oak Ridge North in 2016. She is a mother of three and grandmother of seven. She served as vice president of the Oak Ridge North Economic Development Corp. for a year and a half; her term ended Oct. 31. She is a past president of Business Women’s Forum and previously served on the board for the Montgomery County Food Bank and the Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce.
When asked about her upcoming role as a council member, Candy said: “What’s facing us in the near future are things we’ve been working on already—our mobility issue with Robinson Road and the intersection at Hanna, Commerce Park and the turn lane—just working on the infrastructure of the city. One of the other things is trying to keep our residents informed about what’s going on with the city.”
Candy was unanimously appointed by Oak Ridge North City Council last month to fill the vacated seat of Michelle Cassio following Cassio’s resignation. Cassio was first elected to council in 2016 and started her second term earlier this year. She resigned in October to focus on her jewelry business, Cassio Creations. Candy will serve the remaining months of Cassio’s term until May 2019 and has stated she plans to seek re-election.
