At Monday's Lewisville ISD board of trustees meeting, Chief of Schools Director Joesph Coburn presented the results of the school safety task force discussions and what it would like to see happen in terms of safety and security in the district.

The task force met four times during September and October to discuss 15 topics of safety and security. The 15 topics were preselected by LISD administration. At the last meeting, members ranked the 15 topics on what they would like to see implemented.

"We created the list based off some of the things that we were seeing at other school districts like the clear backpacks," Superintendent Kevin Rogers said. "Every individual got to rank their own individual ranking on each of those 15 topics."

At the top of the list were mental-health training for staff, ID badges for all students, overnight LISD security monitoring, active-shooter training for all staff and enhancement of canine detection services.

Items that were ranked low included metal detectors, armed staff members and clear backpacks.

From the input of the task force, administration will be making recommendations regarding the best ways to move forward in accomplishing these tasks.

"We are going to bring a lot of this forward to you in the months to come as we find the best ways to take the recommendations from the safety task force to you," Coburn said. "That was our commitment to them, and it will be our commitment to you."
