The city of Austin is in the midst of planning efforts for nine major roadways throughout Austin and wants to hear from businesses that might be impacted by construction.

Voters approved the city’s $720 million mobility bond in November 2016 that allocates $482 million to improve the following roadways: Airport Boulevard, Burnet Road, East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, East Riverside Drive, Guadalupe Street, North Lamar Boulevard, Slaughter Lane, South Lamar Boulevard and William Cannon Drive.

On Tuesday, Oct. 16, business owners have three opportunities to learn more about the plans for these nine roadways and provide feedback, according to a city news release. Three sessions will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., 2-3:30 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. at the Austin Chamber of Commerce board room, 535 E. Fifth St., Austin. Attendees may register here.

In April, Austin City Council approved the $1.4 billion Corridor Construction Program that the mobility bond will help fund.

The corridor plan details 34 packages of projects on the nine corridors. The bond will fund design and construction on what the city is calling corridorwide mobility improvements that are the spine of improvements and include rehabbing pavement, improving intersections, replacing traffic signals and adding bike lanes, sidewalks or pedestrian crossing signals, according to the city.

Other work includes new traffic signals to provide enhanced technology to better detect vehicles and intersections with bicycle facilities.

Most construction on the corridors is expected to occur from 2021-24. Part of the funding allocated for the corridors, about $38.3 million, will go toward project development, management and further design and construction projects on the roadways, according to the city of Austin.
