Another ranking has put Pearland near the top of U.S. cities for its track record of growth and economic development, with the city coming in as the third-fastest growing city overall in a WalletHub study released Oct. 1.

WalletHub, a personal finance website, compared 515 cities on 15 growth metrics, ranging from population to unemployment rates to growth in regional GDP per capita, over a seven-year period, according to its report.

Pearland ranked No. 1 in "socio-demographics" indicators, which included growth in overall population, growth in working-age population and growth in college-educated population.

"The Pearland community continues to attract new people and investment, plus retain our existing core of residents in great neighborhoods," City Manager Clay Pearson said. "Since we are living in that growth boom daily, we may not appreciate the scale of what’s happening here, we just know that there’s more people coming for the opportunities that Pearland and the Houston area offer. Now we can see it’s top-three kind of growth scale. We will continue to work hard to make that attractiveness continue."

The city was in the middle of the pack, No. 240, for "jobs and economy" indicators such as job growth, the number of new businesses and household income growth.
