Dianne Tilson has been hand-making pizzas in New Braunfels since 2012. As the owner of Di’s Homemade Pizza, Tilson said she takes pride in pleasing each and every customer. “We have tubers that have made it a family tradition to come back to us every summer, and I look forward to seeing all of them,” Dianne said. Dianne believes the homemade crust could be one reason customers return to Di’s. She formulated her own dough recipe years ago, and she makes everything to order along with her children, her husband and her trusty pal, Bertha. Bertha is her pizza oven. “It’s a stone oven, which helps bake-in the flavor, get the pizzas out hot, and retain their heat so they’re the best they can be for the customers,” said Dianne’s husband, Charles Tilson, also known as “Mr. Di” to many of the store regulars. Di’s Homemade Pizza is a relatively small business, with about 360 square feet of space inside the building, but Di’s is not looking to expand. “I just like this quaintness with my customers. They really are like family,” Dianne said. The menu is also small because the Tilsons said they want to keep food quality consistent. They serve 16-inch pizzas, breadsticks, wings and salads. The restaurant also has a selection of nonalcoholic drinks, but customers may opt to bring their own alcoholic beverages to enjoy. Di’s does not have inside seating, but guests can sit at outside tables under red umbrellas and shade trees or order for pick up or delivery. When a customer places a delivery order, they can expect to see Charles standing at their door when it is ready. “People know his name when he comes to their door. That’s hard to come by these days,” Dianne said. Inside the restaurant, a wall of testimonials floods a long hallway. One such testimonial says, “The pizza was amazing, but even better was [Dianne] made us feel like family.”
