The Corner Pub is an area staple that has historical and modern significance today: A family-owned business for 13 years, the pub’s home is in a 1912 building located in downtown Conroe on the corner of Main and Simonton streets.

LeeAnne Pool, restaurant manager and daughter of owners Joyce and Rodney Pool, said the owners had an interest in helping develop downtown Conroe. The whole family simply loves music—listening to it, that is.

“He purchased the building and decided he wanted to put a bar in—actually, they wanted a live music venue. Then it became a pub,” Pool said.

The Corner Pub carries 72 different beers and has a plethora of mismatched chairs to choose from.

“We have a lot of Texas beer and a lot of local beers,” Pool said. “We opened our deli in 2010, and we do sandwiches and salads—we’re open for lunch every day and we’re open in the evenings.”

The menu also includes ham, roast beef and turkey sandwiches, clubs, reubens, French dips and soup during the cooler weather seasons.

“Our music is the best thing,” Pool said. “We do have open mic, which consists of music, comedians, poetry, anything you want to do you’re welcome to come in and sign up on our board and have your five minutes of fame.”

She said regulars range from age 21 to 81, and there is a big music vibe in downtown Conroe. Pool noticed customers tend to come have a drink before strolling to the Crighton Theatre half a block away or come by for a nightcap after the show.

“We try to get local bands and I try to pick up traveling bands from Nashville doing a southern tour and coming down this way, or from California going through,” Pool said.

She said more new customers have been coming from The Woodlands, trying to go somewhere new besides Market Street.

“We don’t have an evening closing time; it’s just when we start slowing,” Pool said. “But we’re open on the weekend, late.”
