Construction on the new Comal County Jail and Sheriff’s Office renovation are progressing, County Engineer Tom Hornseth told the Comal County Commissioners Court Thursday.

With all subcontractors in place and underground work complete, the first wall and slab are expected to be poured within the next two weeks. Steel structures will directly follow pre-construction.

“It’s going to be real fascinating once the heavy lifting starts, and it will probably go pretty quick,” Hornseth said.

Although the project is about two weeks behind schedule, Hornseth told commissioners construction crews are working to make up the time.

“This is an extremely complex building with all the communications and plumbing that goes with it,” Hornseth said.

Comal County broke ground in November on the $76 million jail and sheriff's office renovation project. The site is located at South Water Lane at I-35 in New Braunfels. It is slated for completion in the summer of 2020.
